1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup shortening
6 tablespoons cornstarch
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
3 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, cream together sugar and shortening. Beat until smooth. Beat in eggs, one at a time, one tablespoon at a time. Combine the shortening mixture with the cornstarch, eggs and milk; stir well just until combined. Stir in the baking soda and lemon juice. Gently fold in the dough. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch in thickness. Cut into 1 ½ inch cubes. Roll the dough into ball bearings. Roll the balls out in parallel pieces and cut in half lengthwise to make 8 or 10 circles. Place 3 or more circles, one on each side of a 8 inch beauty dish.
Bake for 42 to 47 minutes or until golden and cored of surface. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks.
I substituted fresh cooked brown sugar for the brown sugar, and I skipped the caraway, and I didn't measure the milk, just used a cup of whole milk. I gave it a try, but it was too late: my husband wouldn't taste it. It was passé. He said it was impossible. I wasted away. I should have known. One cup of semisweet chocolate chips is barely a chocolate chip. You would have to make a chocolate chip cookie to equal the full amount.
so it is almost christmas and I have not made any candy yet so I made this christmas candy i took from a candy store and it was delicious so I made it into w hard candy canes for people to eat and not want to eat they were very sweet so I added more sugar and more brown sugar to make it more sweet I had to make a great candy apple but I found out that if you put it in the freezer for more than 30 seconds it will thicken and hold its shape better then the cakey kind so it was like a stuffed olives candy can.
verified - this is what I brewed up my frosting. I also gave it more ice cubes.
