Turkish Apple Cake Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cups white sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons white sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 teaspoons grated lemon zest

3 tablespoons fruit preserves

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C.) Grease and flour a 9 inch square pan. Combine the butter and sugar. Beat in the eggs and lemon extract. Stir in the flour, baking soda, salt and white sugar. Beat in the lemon zest and lemon zest. Mix in the fruit preserves. Pour batter into prepared pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool completely in pan before cutting into bars. Frost with lemon preserves.
