Melt Cake Crust: Three Samples

Ingredients

3/4 cup shortening - softened

3/4 cup shortening

1 egg

1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

3 tablespoons milk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

3 teaspoons baking soda

1/4 cup milk

1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening, shortening and egg until light and fluffy. Stir in 3 tablespoons milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 2 tablespoons flour. Stir until very smooth. Add an additional tablespoon of milk or flour, if necessary, to make a smooth transition. Cover bowl with plastic wrap or recipe card. In a separate bowl, stir together the milk, salt, and baking soda. Stir sugar mixture into flour/milk mixture by hand, stir until smooth. Pour into prepared crust shell.

Cut away the excess dough from the pastry shell. Spread dough into greased eightx8 inch square baking pan. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes.
