Old-Time Bread Recipe

Ingredients

1 (4 ounce) can white sugar, divided

1 cup milk

1 cup fresh brown sugar

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1 (2 ounce) container sour cream

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Place 1 tablespoon sugar in a small saucepan with a small amount of milk. Bring milk to a slow boil, leaving 4 tablespoons syrup in pan. Return to a slow boil over medium heat. Remove from heat, and stir in brown sugar, brown sugar, egg, baking soda, lemon juice, cream cheese and sour cream until well blended.

Drain syrup mixture into a 9x5 inch loaf pan, leaving about 1/3 cup mixture for greasing the pan. Place loaf pan in the prepared baking pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 25 minutes, or until golden. Remove loaf from pan and bowl onto a wire rack to cool completely.
