1 (3 ounce) package vanilla flavored Jell-O mix
1 cup milk
1 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon instant chocolate syrup
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

In a large bowl, mix butter and gelatin. Mix in milk and boiling water. Stir until smooth. Mix in instant chocolate syrup, butter, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour mixture into pie crust.
Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue baking for another 20 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
Pour melted butter into a small bowl and slightly drizzle over apples. Return apples to pie crust. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup melted butter and top with 1 cup chopped walnuts. Cover and chill at least 4 hours before serving.
