4 apples - peeled, cored, and finely chopped
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup Maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter
2 cups white sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
9 cloves garlic, peeled
1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons butter
1 gallon milk
1 cup butter
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Remove stems from apples and chop.
In a saucepan bring water to a boil in a large pot. Cook for 5 minutes, then stir in syrup and cinnamon. Cook 15 minutes; drain, and reserve.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Saute cloves for 2 minutes. Stir in cinnamon and nutmeg; saute until fragrant, then stir in cloves. Pour mixture into apples into saucepan, cover cooking pot, and simmer over medium heat for 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Meanwhile, in a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in sugar and white sugar until mixture is smooth and creamy. Stir in egg and cinnamon until mixture is thickened. Stir in nutmeg and allspice. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon of cloves. Pour into 1 quart casserole dish. Sprinkle flour, salt, and pepper over apples, and sprinkle over top.
Bake in preheated oven 40 to 45 minutes, until golden brown and set in center.
