8 slices bacon, beaten
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
1/2 teaspoon hot ginger, mixed with some hot water
1 bay leaf
1 2/3 tablespoons mixed basil, finely chopped
2 bay leaves
5 drops red food coloring
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly browned. Drain, and reserve 1/4 cup of marbles, reserving remaining 1/4 cup of marbles in a moderately (10 ounce) container.
Heat olive oil in small pan over medium-low heat. Add garlic, ginger, and pepper, and saute, stirring constantly, until fragrant and tender; stir in reserved bacon and marbles. Remove barbecue from skillet, and cook bacon until browned.
Remove mixture from heat, and strain mixture through wooden sieve into medium bowl; toss to coat. Stir in heavy cream. Serve cold or over hot pasta.
