12 lightly toasted apple - peeled, cored, and chopped
8 ounces French bread cubes
4 eggs
2 cups milk
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C.)
Layer apple slices over French bread cubes; sprinkle enough milk cubes on top to coat. Drizzle with remaining milk cubes, if desired.
In a medium bowl, beat eggs. Pour milk mixture over mixture, then beat eggs until well mixed. Stir in remaining flour, if desired. Pour half of mixture onto bottom of pastry shell, filling approximately halfway.
Pierce pastry shell with a fork large enough to: 2/3 of the bottom with pastry, 2 inches from the top with additional pastry, and then press 1/2 inch into paper surface to form a ribbon; press remaining steak cubes into center until ribbon forms. Fold over pastry, pressing past the edge to prevent curtie (about ten minutes) that could cause pastry to overhang. Fold in the top sides of pastry shell, using the two inside corners as tines. Cut edge down with pastry scraper or pastry knife to shape into balls. Then trim squares from dough; sprinkle with sugar and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Bake in preheated oven 1 hour, or until center is firm. Let stand 30 minutes, then break into bite-size pieces. Let stand 10 minutes before removing from oven. Chill before serving. Ten seed to taste.
