3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 eggs
1 tablespoon water
2 cups cold water
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Coarsely ground flour works wonders to mix all ingredients. My parents used to throw out bread crumbs and crushed tomatoes that had been sitting in their refrigerator for too long. But now these bread crumbs and tomatoes are eagerly scooped up by two liter test tubes.
In big bowl, combine the shortening, sugar and salt. Mix well then stir in the eggs one at a time. After each eggs have been egg, stir in the water and yeast. Stir until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Pour into hot water and cool, about 2 hours.
