1/2 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 cups white sugar
6 tablespoons warm water
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Cut shortener in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add 1 cup of sugar, and stir until melted and mixture is light and fluffy. Gradually stir in the remaining 1 cup of sugar and 2 teaspoons vanilla, mixing just until sugar is dissolved.
In a small bowl, stir together the flour, salt, and cinnamon. Add to sugar mixture; mix well.
In a large bowl, mix together the flour mixture, salt and cinnamon mixture. Add 1 tablespoon water until just blended. Stir in the flour mixture just until combined. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of a loaf comes out clean. Loosen with a spatula, and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
