1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon white sugar for decoration
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a large bowl, cream together the 1 cup butter, brown sugar, and flour until smooth. Beat in the baking powder, baking soda, and 1/2 cup sugar.
Remove a teaspoon of dough from the batter. Roll the dough into a 12 inch square. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until cookies are lightly browned. Remove from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks.
