1 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup butter, softened
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
In the top of a double boiler, heat chocolate syrup, stirring occasionally until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat, and stir in cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Set aside.
Sift the wheat flour into a large bowl and stir into the chocolate syrup mixture. Slowly pour in the melted chocolate syrup, beating until dissolved. Mix together the oatmeal, brown sugar, lemon juice and brown sugar, then stir into the mixture.
Spread evenly into the prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 28 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not overcook, or the bars will crack. Cool completely before cutting into thin squares.
