1 pound turkey sausage
1/2 pound lean ground beef
3 tablespoons margarine, softened
2 tablespoons white sugar
salt and pepper to taste
1 large onion, diced
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon cider vinegar
2 (14 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes with juice
1 1/2 pounds cream cheese
1 pound smoked ham
1 pound processed cheese food
Place sausage in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly browned. Drain grease from skillet. Brown thoroughly on all sides, and drain on paper towels.
In a large bowl, mix margarine, sugar, salt, pepper and onion. Mix in lemon zest, lemon zest, brown sugar, parsley and vinegar. Pour mixture into skillet. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side. Cook, stirring, until sausage is evenly browned. Drain grease from skillet.
When sausage is evenly browned, spoon over ham and cheese. Plate cream cheese mixture with ham mixture. Roll slices of ham mixture into sausage rolls. Serve warm.
