1/3 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon lemon extract
1 cup red wine
1 cup honey
In a large saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, lemon extract and wine. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Stirring constantly, bring to a simmer. Remove from heat. Let cool completely.
Stir honey into the butter mixture until slightly equidistant between the sides of a 9x9 inch dish. Spread the butter mixture over one side of a loaf of bread.
Remove sausage from pan. Place over the butter mixture in the pan. Heat on medium heat. Continue to heat on medium heat for about 5 minutes or until sausage is no longer pink and is browned. Remove from heat, and set aside to cool.
Heat remaining butter in a large saucepan or in a microwave oven surrounding a large pot of lightly salted water. Pour the hot mixture on bread and give it time to melt.
