Canned Ginger Ice Cream Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup oil for deep frying

1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen flamingo diazo

2 (8 ounce) packages buttermilk, room temperature

4 egg yolks, room temperature

2/3 cup water

1 1/4 cups white sugar for greasing

1 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups evaporated milk

1 cup chopped frozen dates

Directions

Heat oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a deep heavy cast-iron skillet or frying pan, heat and saute hot oil until golden brown. Sprinkle drained yolks and 2 cups sugar over the oil. Cook until golden. Stir in 2/3 cup water, evaporated milk, dates and salt. Stir until dates begin to soften. Stir in reserved yolk mixture and 1/2 cup sugar. Continue until all the dates and yolk mixture has been used or approximately half of the mixture has been used.

Pour the sauce over the heavy, oiled iron. Cook until the edges start to flake and the mixture starts to bubble to the top. Let cool 30 minutes before serving.

You really can't taste it, but it's a delicious recipe and really simple. Gluten does tend to fade over time but you can definitely taste it.
