Ancient Baked French Bread Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon beef bouillon

5 teaspoons baking soda

1/2 medium onion

1/2 cup white sugar

4 cups bread flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

6 eggs

1 1/2 cups butter

4 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup milk

3 tablespoons margarine, softened

1 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 2-quart muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners. Combine flour, bouillon, baking soda and onions.

To make filling: In a large saucepan, heat butter, sugar, milk and sugar over medium-low heat. Add eggs, mix thoroughly.

Stir flour mixture into soy filling mixture; stirring constantly. When mixture comes to a boil, simply stir in the margarine and salt.

Fold bread into leftover batter. Pour top batter toward bottom of prepared greased paper liners.

Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes or until set.

This is very dry. I made this loaf pan myself, using my bread machine. I did 3 times the amount the recipe called for and still didn't have enough. It took an additional 2 hours to bake.

This was good, but I think I prefer my breads a little softer, so I halved the recipe and added a box of toothpicks, too. Made it exactly as written, minus the baking powder and cinnamon. It was still good, though, and I'll try it with other spices (maybe wheatthorne or something) and maybe some garlic and some dried fruit.

I love this bread! I've made it for parties and it gets rave reviews. I've made it for personal use (2 cups sugar) and it turned out great. I can't wait to try it with other recipes as well. Thanks!
