1/2 cup butter, divided
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup bread flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 tablespoon milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the milk, vanilla and bread flour. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the 1/2 cup of butter. Mix in the flour mixture, then the sugar, continuing to mix until just blended. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of loaf comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack.
Remove loaf from pan, and cool completely on a wire rack. Melt butter and beat in 1/2 cup of milk. Spread over cooled loaf, and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup of butter. Turn to coat and refrigerate overnight.
