1 (3 pound) package cream cheese, softened
1 (1 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1/2 cup shortening
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese and butter pie filling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 9 inch pie pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Form cream cheese mixture into a thin layer. Spread pudding mix over cream cheese layer. Place over cream cheese. Spread cream cheese mixture over cream cheese layer.
Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Turn off oven and place pie over hot coals 200 to 250 minutes more, or until filling is set but about an inch thick.
