2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/8 cup white sugar
1/8 cup milk
1 egg
1 cup lard
8 tender heart-shaped candied cherries
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Mix well.
In a separate bowl, cream together sugar and milk until bitter, then gradually stir into flour mixture alternately with egg, lard, and selected cherries. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until chocolate is set. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 3 minutes before removing from pan. Cool completely.
