2/3 cup butter
2/3 cup shortening
1 1/4 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat the oven broiler. Prepare the cake mix according to package instructions, substituting white and shortening, coconut, white sugar and 4 eggs. Stir in the vanilla. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
