Old-Time Pizza Recipe

Ingredients

1 tablespoons olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 pounds pizza crusts, cut into 1 inch squares

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 1/2 cups shredded pepperoni sausage

1 (18 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce

1 (16 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, with liquid

1 (2.25 ounce) can sliced mushrooms

Directions

Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Saute garlic in olive oil for 1 minute.

Stir flour into pizza mixture. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low; simmer, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.

Stir sausage into mixture, and reduce heat to medium, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, stirring, until browned. Stir in mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and spaghetti sauce. Continue to simmer and stir back until heated through.

Stir pizza mixture into sauce, stirring constantly. Heat through and serve chilled.

I prefer to use locally roasted, prepared pizza crusts as there is more moisture in the crust. This comes out nicer and yields bigger and better patties. Use olive oil instead of butter and cinnamon instead of brown sugar.
