This is a wonderful, and under-appreciated sauce. It's not just for casseroles, it's great with breaded beef and chicken breast first; then turkey; then, beer; lastly, diced fresh parsley; on top of that, diced fresh black olives; in another bowl, toss it all together. Pour gravy and onions over, then place in loaf pan, basting each side with the butter. You can dress this recipe up by using bread cubes, for example. It's a great stew and an even better dish to serve over pasta.

I made a couple changes. I used a 4qt. crockpot along with a bunch of other ingredients, and it took like... a lot longer than 2 hours, but it was worth it. I cooked it for 5 hours and didn't have much chicken left over so I added some cooked chicken breast chunks to the sauce, and that was the only change I made. Just as written, I think it's perfection. I would change a few things: 1. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper (I omitted the garlic salt), fry them in hot oil until golden (it took about a minute), then add them to the sauce when the chicken is thickened (do a little dance around the pan to let the chicken juices seep into the salsa). I didn't get a chance to frisk the chicken, so you are probably looking at missing bits of delicious chicken inside the crockpot. The
