1 cup chopped dates
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
3 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup confectioners' sugar
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup chopped nuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch springform pan.
Place dates in the top of a double boiler to allow the mixture to steam. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
Stir together sugar, eggs, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, flour, baking powder, baking soda, oil and 2 cups flour into a large bowl. Beat in the egg mixture. Combine the remaining flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 cup butter spread into separate bowl; beat well. Stir in the oil, sugar mixture. Stir in the 2 cups flour mixture. Fold in the chopped dates and nuts. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.
