Easy French Toast Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups applesauce

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons lemon juice

1/4 teaspoon orange zest

1 cup butter or margarine, softened

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 tablespoon butter, softened

1 egg, lightly beaten

1/8 fluid ounce vanilla extract

3 cups milk or butter/brown sugar mix

3 cups eggs or egg substitute for egg

1 teaspoon lemon zest

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 cup all-purpose flour

Directions

Melt applesauce in small saucepan; cool slightly. Stir applesauce into butter, brown sugar, orange zest and lemon juice. Cook over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat.

Coat toast with applesauce mixture. Place warm in skillet. Fry sliced bread slices evenly on both sides, turning once. Cook remaining sliced breads on opposite sides until browned and crisp, about 5 minutes.

To Serve: Heat butter, brown sugar and butter in skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Fry bread slices evenly on both sides, turning once. Place bread slices in skillet; cook for 5 minutes, turning slowly. Return bread slices to skillet.

I followed the recipe exactly so he was happy and I was able to keep everything gluten and dairy free. I used yellow cake mix and it was the first cake that he had ever made and he said that it was! Great recipe!
