6 slices white bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
2 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup chopped sunflower seeds
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch pan.
Place white bread cubes in the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes, turning every 20 minutes to prevent browning. Remove bread from oven and sprinkle with the flour, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, lemon juice, Swiss cheese and butter. Layer bread cubes with sliced Swiss cheese and place them on top of the oven.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, until golden brown. Drain excess fat and drain excess milk. Place the skillet on low heat and slowly pour the oil into the skillet, stirring constantly. Gradually pour water into the pan. Return the pan to oven and cook for another 30 minutes, until golden brown.
Spread the sliced cheese over the hot bread cubes. Spread the butter over the top of the cheese and spread the lemon juice over the top of the butter. Brush the bottom of the pan with the lemon juice mixture and sprinkle with the remaining Swiss cheese. Drizzle with the milk sauce and sprinkle with the remaining Swiss cheese. Pour remaining melted butter over the top. Spoon the remaining mustard ketchup sauce over the top of the bread cubes.
Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, turning once. Check oven temperature using a candy thermometer. Cool before removing from pan.
