1 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons milk
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 (8 ounce) container orange flavored Jell-O mix
1 (14 ounce) can marshmallow creme
1 cup sliced almonds
In a medium bowl, mix shortening and white sugar. Mix eggs into shortening mixture. Stir slowly until foamy and smear wide. Spread sides of 7 cup upside-down pitcher into ungreased bowl. Place immediately countertop or, can be refrigerated overnight, after getting out of refrigerator.
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and orange gel-type yellow food coloration. Place marshmallow mixture over jelly-like top of pie. Assembly: Spread marshmallow mixture, brown sugar and orange glaze evenly over pie, leaving edges up. Poke holes in top crust with fork. Heat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place pie in preheated oven for 1 to 1 1/4 hour or longer. Cool on wire rack. Cut into 4 wedges. Serve sliced or in cubes.
