1 (18.75 ounce) can sweetened cane sugar
1 (4 ounce) package unflavored gelatin
2 cups white sugar
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1 (3 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 cup butter
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch round cake pan or a 9 inch round cake pan.
In a large bowl, mix cane sugar, gelatin, white sugar, pudding mix, butter, egg, vanilla, flour, and baking powder. Stirring constantly, beat cake batter until stiff. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes and remove from pan. Cool completely. Cut into 1 inch squares. If desired, mix remaining 1/4 cup sugar with whipped cream or whipped cream cheese. Serve warm.
