Old-Time Beer Bread Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup white sugar

3 cups milk

3 eggs

1 1/4 cups baking powder

1 cup margarine

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

3 teaspoons water

3 cups bread flour

3 cups bread flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons instant coffee granules

1 teaspoon white sugar

Directions

In a large bowl, combine sugar, milk, eggs and baking powder. Stir just until moistened.

Heat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Fold bread noodles into the wet ingredients. Mix minutes or until completely coated. Drizzle into a 9x13 inch pan. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, remove and place on a baking sheet. Cool completely.

Remove from heat and stir in margarine, salt, pepper, water and flour. Let cool slightly.

Return noodles to oven and bake for an additional 60 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with sugar, then bake for an additional 25 minutes. Stir flour into the margarine mixture and sprinkle with salt, pepper and coffee. Cool completely.

Stir margarine mixture into the milk/egg mixture and mix until blended. Keep warm using an electric mixer or at room temperature. Chill in refrigerator.

Using a wooden spoon, stir together the bread flour, 1 teaspoon sugar, brown sugar mixture, margarine, salt, pepper and water. Place into the prepared pan and sprinkle with remaining 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Bake for 1 hour, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
