2 quarts water, divided
1 cup cloudy milk
1 cup dry bread crumbs
3 tablespoons butter, divided
1 tablespoon white sugar
5 1/2 cups French bread cubes
1 tablespoon wheat germ
4 teaspoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup water, divided
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, divided
2 cups vegetable oil
3 tablespoons red wine
3 egg yolks
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Gently stir in 1 cup water, 1 cup breadcrumbs, 3 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon white sugar and 4 teaspoons flour.
In a medium glass or metal mixing bowl, beat egg white, 2 tablespoons milk, paprika and 2 teaspoons of flour until smooth. Dip bread cubes in egg mixture, then in 1/2 pot of water, and then in remaining flour.
Coat a 2 quart baking dish with non-stick cooking spray; spread bread cubes in surface of dish. Arrange bread cubes in pan. Bake for 12 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a stockpot over high heat, combine remaining flour, salt and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil and stir; return mixture to pan and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens, 7 to 10 minutes. Stir in 1 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 tablespoons oil, 4 egg yolks and 1 tablespoon dry milk. Heat and stir 1 to 2 minutes, making sure not to burn or burn to a crisp, until mixture coats the back of a spoon. Stir in 4 liquid eggs, 1/4 cup milk and 1 teaspoon bread cubes. Gradually cook cereal until golden in color.
Slice into 1/4 inch slices; serve warm or cold.
This was so delicious, I'm making it again! I omit the bread crumbs, including the butter. Just mixin up the dry and wet ingredients, then pour in the chicken and bals. I can usually get 4-5 minutes of cooking time. Then I take the bread out, and do the same to a baking dish, making sure to leave a slice for the stuffing. This decreases the bread crumb count dramatically. I did this recipe in one layer cake paper, and it baked in 15 minutes at the most. Loved it! ^__^
