2 cups salt
1 1/4 cups mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
4 ounces sandwich pita bread
1 1/4 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch square pan or casserole pan. In a large mixing bowl, combine salt, ½ cup of mayonnaise and 2 tablespoons of garlic salt. Mix well. Transfer pita mixture to the prepared pan.
Divide pita evenly between two additional layers of baking pan, one layer deep and one layer shallow. Spread 1/3 cup the salt mixture evenly over pita.
Shape dough into rectangle 32x20 inches; press surface lightly to flatten. Seal and chill in refrigerator for overnight.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Cover single layer with second layer and bake for 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from oven; let cool completely. Again, lower temperature and bake for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. Spread the note cheese over the top of the bread just to keep the bread from sticking. Repeat with remaining layers and warm again. Repeat with remaining bread, remaining salt and remaining cheese.
