1 pound lean ground beef
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/8 teaspoon dried basil
2 cups crushed pineapple
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato paste
salt and pepper to taste
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
In a medium bowl, mix ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, oregano, basil, pineapple and tomato paste. Season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly. Shape into 1 pound patties.
Heat grill or broiler pan over medium heat. Place patties on the grill, broiling 2 minutes. Brush with 1/2 cup of melted butter. Brush greased, metal spatula 1/4 cup of the cheese. Top patties with remaining cheese. Brush remaining butter over the oil-soaked patties. Repeat with remaining meat, tomato paste and cheese. Coat evenly with remaining butter. Cover with brown paper wrap and refrigerate for one hour or overnight.
Arrange patties on a large serving platter. Serve with mozzarella cheese.
