1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Melt butter and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Saute until smooth, then stir in milk and vanilla. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring constantly, for 20 to 25 minutes. Stir in salt and nutmeg. Return to medium heat and stir in vanilla and salt and nutmeg. Heat through. Cool slightly. Cut into 1/2 inch pieces.
