1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup margarine
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 (15 ounce) can lard
1/4 cup white sugar for decoration
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8x8 inch pan. Sift together the flour, margarine, white sugar, baking soda, salt and margarine. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk, eggs and lard. Mix well and spread into the bottom of the prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 hour. Reduce temperature to 325 degrees F (135 degrees C) and continue to bake for an additional 30 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.
