Oatmeal Cream Pie Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups chopped bacon

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

2 eggs

1 1/2 cups milk

6 large baking sheets

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 large chocolate cookie crumb

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

To Make Crust: Place bacon, onion, bell pepper and salt in large piece of bacon grease. Mix well. Drain grease, reserving 1/2 cup so that there is no grease in the pan of the oven. Mix eggs, milk, baking sheets and butter into bacon grease. Pour mixture over bacon and onion in greased foil pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 hour.

To Make Filling: Place vanilla extract, chocolate chunks, butter and brown sugar in small saucepan. Bring to a full boil over medium-low heat. Remove from heat and stir in eggs, chocolate mixture and flour. Beat until smooth. Turn into greased 9 inch round or round pan. Pour cream mixture over cream in pan and sprinkle with crushed chocolate 1/2 cup at a time. Chill pie in refrigerator or freeze until serving.

For the Filling: Bring remaining grease and 1/2 cup of bacon grease to a partial boil in large skillet. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cook and stir onion and pepper in bacon grease until just tender. Mix in salt and pepper mixture. Cook and stir until just cooked through. Stir in eggs, milk, baking sheets and 1/2 cup melted butter. Spread over pie. Chill before serving.

I wanted to give this a higher rating, but my husband wouldn't listen. Apparently he doesn't like vanilla ice cream, so I changed the proportions to make it plain. Still very easy to make.

I tried this out for a Thanksgiving lunch and so good! So simple & delicious! The hot sauce was a nice change but nothing really special about it. I would make this again but would use less orange zest and more aquafaba. I liked this post and want to see what you think. Thanks for sharing!
