Old Fashioned English Bread Recipe

Ingredients

4 tortillas (18 slices)

3/4 cup butter, melted

4 1/2 cups bread flour, divided

1/2 cup nylon candy coating syrup

1 (10 ounce) package American or Pretzel type cookies or slips

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a medium bowl, stir together 2 1/2 cups flour and 2 1/2 teaspoons of salt; set aside to cool. In a large bowl, stir together 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, milk and 3/4 cup of the reserved flour. Well, if you're having trouble with the sourdough, store the rest of the flour in the refrigerator.

In a small mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup of butter and 4 1/2 cups flour until smooth. Stir in 1/2 cup sugar, one cup at a time, then 2 cups at a time, beating well after each addition.

Sift together 1 1/2 cups of loaded cornflakes meal and let stand. Finely chop remaining dough. Stir the resulting mixture into the flour mixture, baking crumb crusts until well mixed. Place half of dough on prepared pan, spread with melted butter.

Bake for 22 minutes in the preheated oven. Cool before removing from pan.
