1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
3 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup butter
1 or 2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup light corn syrup
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans, 8x12 inch.
In a large bowl, stir together 1 cup flour, 2 1/2 teaspoons sugar, 2 eggs, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, beat together 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 cup butter, and 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar. Stir flour mixture into egg mixture, then stir in vanilla. Fill pans with approximately 1/2 of the egg mixture.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack.
Invert chilled loaves onto wire racks to cool completely. Garnish with melted butter or margarine, if desired.

To make the sauce: In a medium bowl, beat the butter, 2 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until smooth. Gently stir in baked loaves. Watch Now
