Double Layer Chocolate Hershey's Caramel Bars Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup water, divided

1/2 cup white sugar

2 eggs

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons water, divided

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup butter and 1 cup water. Combine the eggs, sugar, cocoa and remaining 1 cup butter or margarine, stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, fold in the flour, baking soda, salt and water. Cut the layers in half lengthwise, forming them into the following bars: 37x18 inches; 19x7 inches; and 17 inches from the long side of the pan. Press each bar onto the baking sheet.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until a knife inserted comes out clean. Remove from the baking sheets from the parchment paper and allow them to cool on wire racks; store.
