Great Balls Recipe

Ingredients

1 (18 ounce) package white cake mix

1 (12 ounce) package yellow cake mix

2 eggs

1 cup white sugar

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup buttermilk

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 cup butter, chilled

3 tablespoons shortening

3/4 cup white sugar

1/2 cup milk

3 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3/4 cup orange liqueur

1 (1 ounce) square unsweetened chocolate, chopped

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10 inch tube pan.

In a large bowl, stir together the flour, buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1/4 cup butter. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and pour in the chocolate chips.

Pour the batter evenly over the chocolate layer in the prepared pan. bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan 20 minutes before removing from the rack. frost with the top layer of frosting.

To make the frosting: In a large bowl, beat the butter or margarine, shortening and 3/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy. sifted together the flour and baking soda, stir into the creamed mixture until completely combined.

The cake can be frosted using a double boiler or double boiler with a wire rack, or using a double boiler and an electric mixer. Warm the cake entirely in the oven; remove it from the oven and let it cool.
