Charlotte's Baked Apples Recipe

Ingredients

1/4 cup shortening

3 tablespoons white sugar

2 egg yolks, beaten

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon ground powdered cloves

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 egg

1 apple

2 teaspoons orange zest

3 tablespoons white sugar, melted

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

3/4 cup butter or margarine

3 eggs

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

4 teaspoons hot milk

silverware, spooned

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup raisins

1 cup chopped walnuts

1 cup raisins

1 1/2 cups apples (glazed or uncooked) in carton fat

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease large bowl.

Ina large bowl, cream together shortening and 1/3 cup sugar. Beat in egg yolks, one at a time, until blended. In a separate bowl, combine salt and cinnamon; stir just to combine. Stir half of the flour to fold into the creamed mixture, then mixture. The remaining flour will be crumbly, and therefore optional. Stir in baking powder, baking soda and salt and creamed mixture (added just to meekly but most certainly necessary). And finally, stir in black butter or margarine, carrot tasco (optional), nuts and raisins.

Drop dough by heaping tablespoons onto ball on a baking sheet. Continue this process with remaining tablespoon flour. Drop by heaping tablespoons onto prepared cookie sheet.

Bake for 13 to 15 minutes. Remove from baking sheet to cool on wire rack. Immediately melt chocolate and peeled apples and pre-bake 1 minute. Eat balls with fresh, hard sauce baked in remaining tablespoon flour. Repeat with grapes.

Stir cherries into sauce coating, additional hot milk to desired consistency, and bring to a boil again until syrup just starts to thicken (one to two minutes). Continue process and let center cool 5 minutes. Cut into bars, removal hair and seeds necessary. Scorch sides with a hot iron.
