Almond Bars II Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons white sugar

1 tablespoon salt

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 eggs

2 teaspoons almond extract

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups milk

2/3 cup butter, melted

1/2 cup applesauce

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup flaked coconut

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

1/3 cup shredded coconut

1 cup chopped pecans

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and cocoa powder. Stir in the eggs and almonds. Stir in chocolate chips and milk. Sift the flour mixture into the chocolate mixture, then stir in the butter, oats, coconut and pecans.

In a medium bowl, cream together the 1/2 cup butter, chocolate chips, and coconut. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 2 inch squares. Place into a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Bake for 18 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven. cool before cutting into bars.

To make the glaze: In a small bowl, gently stir together 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. In a bowl, stir together 2/3 cup rolled oats, 1 cup rolled oats, 2 cups chopped pecans, and 1 cup chopped coconut. Pour over bars before they completely cool before glazing.
