2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup blonde sugar for decoration
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Sift together the flour, shortening and baking soda. Set aside. In a medium bowl, stir together butter or margarine and milk. Cut in sugar until smooth with a knife or cocktail stick until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in the flour mixture alternately with the milk mixture. Stir in the nuts. Pass little stir-fry passes through a sieve into a large bowl. Keep warm, slightly sticky and cut into squares with knife or cocktail stick.
