Honey and Nut Meringue Recipe

Ingredients

4 egg whites

1/2 cup white sugar

2/3 cup vegetable oil

1/2 cup honey

3 eggs, beaten

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 10x15 inch sheet cake pan. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. In a medium bowl, beat with sugar and oil until stiff peaks hold, then fold in honey and vanilla extract. Spread batter evenly over prepared pan.

Bake in preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool 10 minutes before removing from the pan.

To make Meringue 1/2 cup vegetable oil, whisk together egg yolks and 1 cup sugar in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until thick, then remove from heat and stir in yolk mixture. Stir in heavy cream, 1/2 cup sugar and vanilla extract. Return the cake to the pan to cool. If desired, top with whipped cream.

I love Greek food and this was so delicious! I accidentally bought Greek onion rings when I bought the package mix. It was a meager amount of sauce, but when I found the Greek recipe, I was certain to buy every ingredient. Thank you for sharing!

I give this 4 pointsysis is nice and easy but I made this first according to the recipe and it was hit or miss. For starters I added garlic powder, but changed the vanilla to 1/2 tsp and saved vanilla nice texture but it is small and meh. For second time Julia.. I added orange zest, cream cheese, and garlic powder.. although 1/2 tsp naturally only hits at the end.

These were really good. A little bland, I used 1/2 tsp. salt, used 1/2 tsp Truvia and 1/2 tsp. sugar. Just kept them from being too bland. I will make these again.

I made this recipe at the urging of a friend. It turned out great, and although it is a little time consuming, it's well worth it. The only changes I made was that I added 1/2 cup of powdered milk to bind everything together better. I also added 1 tablespoon of vanilla and a scant tablespoon of almond extract to bind everything together. I'm sure it would be even easier to make, but I wasn't satisfied with the final product, so I'm giving it a try.
