6 cups water
3 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
8 tablespoons butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup rolled oats
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
In a large saucepan combine water, 3 cups sugar, eggs and vanilla extract; whisk until sugar is dissolved. Stir in flour, 1 cup at a time, then stir in sugar mixture until all flour is combined and all 1 cup of sugar is dissolved. Stir in salt, nutmeg and melted butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
