1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
1 egg yolk, lightly beaten
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
4 teaspoons dry yeast
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch pan.
Melt butter or margarine in a large bowl. Beat together golden syrup, brown sugar, white sugar and brown sugar. Pour mixture into the prepared pan.
In a separate bowl, mix egg yolk, flour, baking powder and yeast. Make a well in the center of each and pour egg mixture over bread and the bread.
Bake in preheated oven until the top edges are golden, about 10 minutes. Remove from oven, let cool completely, then cut into squares.
