1 (10 ounce) can evaporated milk
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup milk
1 cup water
In a large saucepan, combine evaporated milk and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until butter is melted and mixture begins to bubble. Return mixture to pan and stir just until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture bubbles well.
Add baking soda and sugar and bring mixture to a boil. Add egg and vanilla and stir. Return mixture to a boil and stir just until blended. Pour into 1-quart dish. Cool for 10 minutes. Garnish with cherry syrup and butter and serve.
