1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
4 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon white dusting powder
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, brown sugar, eggs, 1 cup flour and baking powder. Stirring well, blend the butter mixture with the brown sugar mixture. Beat in the flour, baking powder and remaining 1/2 cup flour. Mix in the vanilla extract if desired. Drop by tablespoons into the prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Allow cookies to set before removing from cookie sheets. Allow cookies to touch for 5 minutes before removing from cookie sheets.
