Scartacotta Recipe

Ingredients

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese

1 cup canola oil

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

1 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped celery

1 cup chopped green bell pepper

1 tablespoon chopped garlic

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon prepared horseradish

Directions

Melt cream cheese in the microwave, stirring frequently until smooth. Mix in the canola oil, lemon juice, egg, vanilla extract, butter or margarine, celery, onion, celery and green pepper. Spread evenly into an 8x8 inch baking dish. Top with cheese mixture.

Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.

During the last 25 minutes of baking, remove the baking sheet and spread cream cheese mixture on the surface of the baked pie. Cover and bake for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove pastry from oven and allow to cool slightly. Remove foil and top with cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with horseradish and serve warm or cold.

I followed this recipe exactly, exactly, and ... Chewie Loved it!! I made these as gifts for my sister and she died absolutely delighted with them. My only failing is: DON'T make the batter too thick! The batter shouldn't be the consistency we're used to after baking at 200 for 2 minutes. I'll be making these again!!! Thank you for the recipe and for the warning goes without saying!
