1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons butter
1 egg
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
3 tablespoons buttermilk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease 12 ounces of springform pan.
In a medium bowl, stir together 1/4 cup of sugar, water and butter. Stir in egg and buttermilk. Sprinkle evenly over prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a knife inserted into center comes out clean. Let cool 5 minutes before removing cake from pan.
