1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 1/2 tablespoons water
1/2 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
5 cups bread cubes
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle beer, chilled
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add potatoes and water to boil; reduce heat to low. Cover, and boil 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stirring occasionally, cover, and simmer until potatoes are tender.
Add onion and garlic to potatoes. Mix well.
Stir in bread cubes and basil. Cool. Stir in beer. Cover, and simmer about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir breaded sausage into potatoes. Heat 4 cups water, but do not boil. When potato is cooked tender, transfer to a large pot and let stand about 5 minutes.
