2 slices white bread, torn in half
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
Heat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Place torn-out bread piece in the bottom of a greased 8x8 inch baking pan.
Place the egg, the flour and the baking soda in a large bowl and gently beat. Place the bread piece into the egg mixture. Pour the batter over the bread layer and spread evenly. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil.
Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
